Audra is an artist who stands out because of her range and variety of her talent as a performer and song writer. Audra McDonald who has won Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for excellence in this area. With a stunning soprano and an incomparable gift to tell the truth, she is as much comfortable on Broadway and the opera on stage as she is in film and television roles. She is a renowned performer as a recording artist and concert performer and regularly performs at some of the most prestigious places around the world. McDonald is a native of California, born in Fresno California to a music family, began her classical voice training at New York's Juilliard School. She won her debut Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of a Featured actress in a musical for Carousel, at Lincoln Center Theater. Following four years of being in the Broadway premieres of Master Class by Terrence M. McNally (1996) in addition to Ragtime (1998) in 1998, she won two additional Tony Awards. She won her fourth Tony for her role in the musical that she portrayed alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun. Then in 2012, when she was the lead actor in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess she earned the fifth Tony and also won her first prize in the lead actor category. In 2014, she created Broadway history and became the Tony Awards most decorated performer after she received the sixth Tony Award for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which also served as a basis for her Olivier Award nominated performance in the 2017 season of the London's West End. First actor awarded in four different acting categories, McDonald also set a record for the amount of awards an actor has been awarded. McDonald also has credits for theatre shows, including The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009); this also was the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical Sense of 1921 And All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (192019) and Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald made her TV debut in the Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First Hundred years. Her next role was that of a character actor on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit and she starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald's first Emmy was awarded for her performance in the HBO movie adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. The film was directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson as the main character, McDonald then was back on network television in 2003. The actress starred on Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Beginning in 2006, she was part of the cast of the The Bedford Diaries on the WB. The Bedford Diaries and over the course of the season, she was the role of a regular on the television series of NBC, Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded the 4th Emmy award for her role in HBO's special film of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in the year 2016. The Bite is a drama with six episodes based on a pandemic, coproduced with Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. She appeared in the show with Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. She starred in 2009 as she played U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In 2018 McDonald reprised her role as Liz Reddick as a regular on Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She got three Critics Choice Award nods for the role. The actress also appeared in Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
