Gabriel

Gabriel Salazar Vergara was born on 31 January 1936. Vergara is Chilean history. He is recognized in his nation for his work on historical and cultural studies and the interpretations that accompany popular movements, including protests by students in both 2011-12 and 2006. Salazar was born into a low-income family, he studied history, sociology , and philosophical studies at Universidad de Chile, and for time he was advisor to historian Mario Gongora and classical historian Hector Herrera Cajas. Salazar was a Revolutionary Left Movement member from 1973 to 1973. 2. In the year 1973 Salazar was tortured at Villa Grimaldi by the military. After being released from the prison camp for military, he fled to England. He was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship to continue studies at University of Hull. In 1984, he was awarded an honorary PhD from the university within Economic and Social History. The following year after that, he returned to Chile. Salazar made a breakthrough in 1985. His work is largely inaccessible. Salazar's study subjects were labourers, peons and children huachos[A] as well as women. Salazar was among the pioneers of Nueva Historia Social, a historical movement. Salazar views history as a tool to promote democratic action.
